Outdoor activities are varied and in abundance, from the simple pleasures of bush walking or horse riding in the unspoiled alpine wilderness to the thrills of white water rafting on the “Mighty Murray”. According to the experts, riding the Murray during the spring snow melts is the equal of the world’s best “white water”.
In addition, the lake and rivers provide some of the best trout fishing in mainland Australia. If you’ve left your rod at home, you may hire one at our caravan park.
Drive the spectacular Alpine Way, a 108 km stretch of road between Jindabyne and Khancoban winding through the alpine scenery of Kosciuszko National Park. The fully sealed road offers a fabulous high country alternative route between Melbourne and Sydney.

KHANCOBAN GOLF CLUB
This beautiful 9 holes course is the only grass green course in the Upper Murray and is solely maintained by volunteers.
It is open most times and the fees are just $20 a day for as many rounds of golf as you please!! If you are passing through during your visit to the snowy mountains and haven’t come prepared for a game of golf then it’s OK. The club does buggy, clubs and a golf cart hire for $20 for 9 holes or $30 for 18 which must be pre-booked.

KHANCOBAN TENNIS CLUB
Khancoban has 4 hard court tennis courts which are available for use by locals and visitors alike. The courts have recently been resurfaced and are a real asset to the town. Toilets are located a short walk away at the oval. Tennis courts can be hired for $10 per hour. Keys available at the post office and Khancoban Lakeside Caravan Park. Tennis balls are for sale at the Khancoban chemist. Khancoban has a team in the Upper Murray tennis competition which runs on a Saturday afternoon. Khancoban Creek
Fantastic escape during the hot summer days!! Directly from our Caravan Park, along the bitumen walking track (only 10 min of leisurely walk) will lead you straight to the refreshing rocky creek. This hidden gem is absolutely stunning and offering lots of fun for kids young and old. If you wish to continue your walk along the track a little further (another 10 min) this will lead you to the Lakeside boat ramp where you can swim, water ski, fish or just relax with a picnic by the shade of a tree.
Our region is rich in majestic mountain and picturesque valleys. No matter on your age or fitness ability, there are hundreds of kilometers to explore. Mapped trails guide you through gentle treks to cruise along which are perfect family friendly rides. If you prefer to get your adrenaline rush from the more technical extreme fast downhill trails than you are sure to meet your match.
Fishing Lakes, Rivers and Streams
The New South Wales Snowy Mountains region offers numerous pristine waterways, some of the best in the world!
Khancoban Pondage is a 3km long lake that forms part of the Snowy Mountains Hydro Scheme. The Lake holds brown and rainbow trout, atlantic salmon and even redfin. During snow melts thunderous Thredbo River has some of the finest trout waters on the planet. Alpine streams are mainly suitable for fly fishing due to their size. Light weight rods and long leaders are the go for these crystal clear trout havens.
Canoeing, Kayaking and White Water Rafting
From gentle paddle to extreme rapids Snowy mountains has them all !! Exploring our lakes and rivers is fun for all ages and fitness levels. For those who love extreme white water rafting and after huge thrills then Upper Murray river will not disappoint.
Water Skiing at Khancoban Dam
Endless fun for the whole family! Grab a picnic and head down to the Khancoban Dam. Children young and old will love to cool off by the waters edge or take on the extreme ride behind the speed boat. The dam has easy excess with concrete boat ramp.
This multi-use track is popular with bushwalkers and mountain bikers alike. It follows the old road to Mount Kosciuszko, through snow gums, heath, and herb fields, with breathtaking views. Hike or ride from Charlotte Pass through the high peaks of Kosciuszko National Park.

Paddy’s River Falls is only 45min drive from Khancoban on the way to Tumbarumba. From the lookout up above you can easily walk down to the water fall and have a refreshing swim in the rocky pool down below.
Home to Australia’s five highest peaks, the alpine tracks are a wonder to see on foot. With wildlife, lush flora and sweeping views bush walks and hikes vary in difficulty.
